Second Quarter Amazing Art

Amazing Art!

Kinders have been hard at work creating color wheels. They have been exploring how to mix colors and painting basics.

We got our inspiration from the book Mouse Paint. After break we will create color wheels.

1st graders have been hard at work creating Story Collages. These are inspired by Ezra Jack Keats books, who uses collage and drawing to create his stories. The first graders came up with a story with a setting and characters. Then then painted their backgrounds. They created a collage on top of their backgrounds to match their stories. Then then drew and attached their characters!

2nd Graders have been exploring the elements of art: texture, shape, color, line, and form. They will create a piece of their choice using all the elements after break. So far they have used, line, color and texture.

3rd Graders have been using teamwork and problem solving skills to plan and create murals for our school. They had to come up with a message and target group. Then they drew out their ideas. After break they will be drawing and painting the murals to hang up around our school.

4th Graders just finished a fan favorite: Pinch Pot Creatures! They learned how to form their creature and add details in clay. They are painting them with lots of colors and details!

5th Graders finished up their favorite medium projects a few weeks ago. They were able to choose their favorite medium to work in and their subject matter.

Around the World!

Around the World: 4th and 5th grade Clubs show!

Welcome to Japan, Africa, Ireland, India, Cuba and the Caribbean!

This December the 4th and 5th graders put on quite a show! We had dragons, drums, dancing, etc... Art Club created the backdrop and props for the show. The Music Club sang and played instruments from countries around the world. PE Club created dances that electrified. Tech Club made videos and got the word out about our show!
Together it was two spectacular evenings with a packed house! I always love collaborating with me team. The students were so proud to show off their specialties! Check out pictures below!

Kinder Creations

Kinder Collages

Kinders have been hard at work, creating collages. They learned a bunch of different painting techniques. Learning how to mix colors, paint smooth and rough was awe inspiring and messy. They also learned that you can paint without a brush (we used cardboard for our branches)! The art of collage was so much fun. Some traced their trees, while others chose to create their own tree shapes. Then they cut and glued it all together to create beautiful fall scenes.

Fall happenings!

2nd Graders continue using real life to draw just like Henri Rousseau! They are working on overlapping, shading and using detail.

It's okay to make mistakes! The 3rd graders have been creating sculptures using "Zentangle" designs. They have been working on being okay to "go with the flow," even if they make mistakes. They have had to problem solve to create their sculptures as well as trying to make their art more meaningful.

2nd Grade Rousseau Inspired Art

Henri Rousseau used real life to paint! He used house plants and nature in parks and zoos to create his jungle landscapes.

The 2nd Graders used our Learning Garden to inspire them! They found a variety of things to draw in the garden. Students are leaning to reference the world around them for inspiration. One student even found a little fairy dust by a tree. It was a magical day!

Welcome back!

Wow! This year started off with a bang! I finally have time for a blog update! The art students are almost on to their second project!

We just wrapped up Original Works Art. Letters will be sent home regarding the annual art fundraiser next week! Remember that the money raised goes right back into the art room for all our supplies and technology needs.

Below  are some amazing projects that West Ridge Artists created!

This week West Ridge Artists are working on their beginning of the year self portraits. We create portraits every year to add to our portfolios. Each year students can see their progress as artists.

Keep checking back for more updates!
