Metal Relief Sculptures Shine

The 3rd graders created some amazing metal relief sculptures out of plates, foil and sharpies. They began by building their sculptures out of foam plates. The students then used the idea of Zentangle to create their designs. The tricky part was not being able to erase, they had to "go with the flow." Then they made a black frame with more designs on it.
"I created by using ideas from my mind."

"If you mess up it can turn into something beautiful."

"You need to go with the flow."

"It doesn't have to be perfect."

Wassily Kandinsky Dots

1st Graders just finished a musical art project!
We studied the art of Wassily Kandinsky, an artist who created all of his art while listening to music. We read the Noisy Paintbox, which was all about his art.
Then we listened to Peter and the Wolf and painted to the music. Here are what some 1st grade artists said about listening to music while doing art:
* The music helped me to see what was in my mind.
*The music helped me think outside the box!
*The music helped me paint whatever I want.

Art Market Success!

Art Market for the Garden
The 4th and 5th grade Garden Club had a very successful Art Market for the Learning Garden. They created all kinds of art to sell at the market. The students were so busy selling their wares, giving tours and greeting the guests that the time flew by! Overall we raised $324 and 3 bags of dirt!

We had a tons of parents, students and teachers stop by to see the garden, buy art and baked goods. The kids quite literally did everything themselves!

Using the elements

The second graders are having a blast using four of the elements of art in their current piece. Each day we look at a piece Paul Klee's and discuss why he uses lines, colors, texture and shapes. Their responses vary from, "he uses colors, that are his favorite, to he uses line to make his colors pop!" Then we practice doing what he does; making artistic choices.

Using color to go with the flow.

Using lines to add detail and make our art pop!

Some very cool examples of smart artistic choices!

Garden Club Presents: Art Market for the Garden on October 25th!

Once there was a mud pit....

We had a dream to build a garden where we could think, write, investigate, and read in. Then, with the help of many there was a garden.....

Creating portable seats for the garden

Now we are in need of a few final touches, like, dirt, seeds, mulch and a sign. The Garden Club has been working hard on handmade art to sell on October 25th from 3:30-4:30 in the garden. Join us for a look at the garden and a chance to buy handmade art to support our garden's needs.
