4th Quarter Updates

Kinder- Eric Carle Collages

Kinder created Eric Carle style collages by painting their own paper then cutting and gluing shapes together to create their own animals. They had so many clever ideas!

1st Grade -"Nerdy Birdys"

1st graders are using art to communicate a message for next year! They used the book Nerdy Birdy as their inspiration to create messages about friendship and belonging. They will be displayed for the start of next year.

2nd Grade- Monet Watercolor Trees

2nd graders used Monet's "Magpie" painting to explore realistic nature painting. They learned different watercolor techniques in creating their trees.

3rd Grade Clay Houses

3rd Graders are in the process of making clay slab houses. They used the slab method for making their house, then they are placing their house on "land" and creating details to go around it.

4th Grade Mini Self Portrait Collages

The 4th graders had fun creating Todd Parr inspired mini self portrait collages.

5th Grade: Studio Art- Pop Art

5th graders had a blast creating their favorite popular icons into Pop Art. We had everything from Taco Bell to Facebook!

What a fantastic year! I'll post a bit in the summer, but until next year have a fantastic summer!

Art room updates!

Georgia O'Keefe Flowers by Kinders

In Kinder we worked on using resources to help us draw flowers. We used our brains, pictures and fake flowers to help us. The result were amazingly beautiful flowers!

1st Grade Illustrations

In 1st grade we studied Jan Brett's illustrations. We leanred how to draw a setting and characters. The target was to tell their story by using pictures. We created a story map to help us stay organized. Our finished products were outlined with only one detail colored to make it POP!

2nd Grade "Starry Nights"

In 2nd Grade we worked on examining Vincent Gogh's "Starry Night." We studied how he made movement in his art. Then we practiced creating movement in our own skies. We started with marker and then used paint to create movement. We used tints for the colors and collaged the foregrounds.

3rd Grade Aboriginal Dot Paintings

3rd graders studied the art of the Austrailian Native People, the Aboriginals. We discussed and practiced creating visual rhythm. Then they created their own animals and designs.

4th Grade One-Point Perspective Drawings

4th graders worked hard on these drawings! They practiced drawing one point perspective to create 3-D and depth in their art. They chose the way they colored either by, outlining, using colored pencils, crayons or marker.

2nd Graders Play with the Elements

Color, Line, Texture, Shape Oh My!
The 2nd grade artists learned a lot about 4 elements of art: color, line, shape and texture by actually using them. They began with color, the students were just asked to paint their plate using 4 colors. They loved being able to go with the flow as they painted. We discussed why artists use certain colors. They said, "to tell a story, make their art pop and to make it look good."

Then they chose white or black and added lines. They thought artists used lines to "make their art pop, separate things and highlight shapes."

They added texture to their petals to "make it look real, make it 3-D and add interest."

The last step was to cut out shapes to create a flower. They loved adding shapes to make it "look like something, and detailed."

Now they know why artists use color, line, shape and texture and are looking forward to using them again!
